Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has
confirmed that it has partnered with German camera giant Leica, becoming the latest smartphone company to partner with it after Huawei and Sharp.
Apart from announcing the partnership, the company also confirmed that its first smartphone with Leica cameras will be launched in July 2022. It could be the highly anticipated Xiaomi 12 Ultra which has been rumored for quite some time now.
“This cooperation will give a strong impetus to Xiaomi’s imaging strategy. During the cooperation, from optical design to adjustment of aesthetic orientations, the innovative technologies, product philosophies and imaging preferences of both sides have experienced unprecedented collision and deep fusion,” said Lei Jun. , CEO of Xiaomi Group.
According to Xiaomi, the partnership will include cooperation in optical design, aesthetic orientations and imaging preferences.
Xiaomi isn’t the first Chinese smartphone maker to partner with camera brands. OnePlus has a partnership with Hasselblad and Vivo has partnered with ZEISS. While Xiaomi’s flagship devices are packed with features, cameras have always been one of the shortcomings.
The Xiaomi 12 Ultra is expected to launch in July. Although not much is known about the device, it is expected to be powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chipset.
