Looking for the elusive Sony console?

(The Independent)

Update July 8: The PS5 is currently in stock at curries, BT Shop, EE and To analyseafter selling to Smyths Toys. PS5 could restock at Game soon. Read on for more information.

Since its launch in 2020, the PlayStation 5 has been very difficult to obtain. Supply chain issues resulting from the global pandemic have all but halted production of Sony’s latest games console.

Fortunately, things have improved in recent months. The PS5 was pretty much in stock throughout May and June, with Game and the BT Store, as well as several independent retailers like The Game Collection leading the way. We expect this flurry of console restocks to continue throughout the summer. With Amazon Prime Day on the horizon, we’re also paying close attention to the tech giant’s website this week.

Although restocks are becoming more regular, buying a console on its own is still more difficult than picking up a bundle, with standalone consoles selling out in the blink of an eye, while digital consoles (bundles included) have been non-existent. But we’re here to help, whether you’re looking for a bundle or the standalone PS5 Disc and PS5 Digital Edition consoles.

Are you still looking for the elusive PlayStation 5? Our aim is to guarantee you a next-gen machine, as well as provide you with details on the best games and accessories to grab with your new console, as well as the latest game reviews.

PS5 inventory tracking, signing

And so ends another day of PS5 inventory tracking. Smyths Toys was the only new retailer to join us today, and it sold out the standalone PS5 console in 15 minutes.

For those keeping track – the PS5 is still in stock at Currys, BT Shop, EE and Scan right now, but they only sell bundles. We’re closing the blog for the weekend, but we’ll be back here on Monday to do it all again. Have a great weekend!

Hello, PS5 trackers

Good morning! We hope you had a great weekend and are ready for the next wave of PS5 bundles. We saw the console available at six different retailers on Friday and now it’s down to three. The PS5 is still available for purchase in the BT, Currys and EE store.

It’s the beginning of the month, so we expect to see other retailers drop over the next few days. We’ll be keeping a close eye on Game as when they restock they tend to offer a wide variety of packs. Stay tuned for any updates.

PS5 now available from Very

The PS5 is now available from Very, with the disc edition Forbidden Horizon West pack. Currently it’s £499.99, meaning customers can save £20 on the cost of the game when purchased separately.

PS5 stock available at Currys

First off, Currys is offering bundles of the PS5 with a few extras included as well. There are a few available, but so far the cheapest includes a copy of Horizon Forbidden West, Lego Star Wars, a red dualsense controller and wireless headphones for a total of £649.

PS5 in stock at EE

The PS5 is also in stock at EE! To get the console, you need to be an EE monthly customer and it’s only available through EE’s “Add to Plan” service, which you’ll pay for over 11 months without interest. There is also an upfront payment of £10.

Right now you can get a PS5 with Forbidden Horizon West for £52 a month (

PS5 bundle available on BT Shop

BT is giving its customers a helping hand when it comes to securing a PS5. Instead of opening the virtual doors and facing a rush like other retailers, BT sends unique voucher codes to its customers.

If you’re a BT TV customer, for example, or a BT Sport subscriber, you can request to receive a PS5 voucher code. These are emailed sporadically and can be used to access a PS5 the next time the BT store has a restock. You still have to pay the normal price, of course, but this system is a convenient way to reward BT customers and give them a better chance of getting a console.

Right now, BT customers will be able to pick up the PS5 Forbidden Horizon West bundle for £499.99.

Can you get a PS5 on Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day kicks off July 12 and 13 with its usual two-day shopping bargain next week. As always, there will be plenty of big ticket items on offer, so if you’re looking to pick up new games on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch, but are we likely to see any PS5 consoles available as part of the event?

The first Prime Day deals kicked off on June 21, which also happened to be the same day as Amazon’s latest PS5 release. While it might have been a coincidence, we expect Amazon to make at least one drop every month, so maybe we’ll see other consoles arrive for the event?

While it’s a hopeful thought, we’ve already seen plenty of great deals on other PS5 games and accessories, such as pre-orders for the upcoming horror title. The Callisto Protocol for £45.95 (, the cheapest we’ve managed to find the game so far. Find out more about the best Amazon Prime Day game deals early next week.

Can you expand PS5 storage?

The PS5 Standard Edition comes with 825GB of usable storage to download all the latest games, but as you may know, they can pack a bit of heft. For instance, Gran Turismo 7 on the PS5 (£58.95, has a file size of over 89GB, more than a tenth of the console’s capacity.

Luckily, there’s an easy way to expand your total storage, simply by removing the PS5’s lid and installing an internal SSD. Currently there’s one available on Amazon over 52% off (£124.98, that adds an extra 1TB of space to your console and it’s one of our accessories favorites for the PS5.
