Apple’s curious resistance to the creation of a touchscreen Mac.

A few weeks ago, I took my first road trip since March 3, 2020. I traveled to New Orleans to speak at a college event and then to Littleton, Colo. For my nephew’s wedding. Prior to this trip, I traveled between 50 and 100,000 miles per year for work and was what you might call a seasoned traveler. Getting back on the road after a 15 month hiatus was a shock to my system and quickly reminded me why I hate airports.

However, traveling those many miles each year and still needing technology for my job has made me what some have called a technological road warrior. Over the years I have worked on numerous portable and mobile related computing projects for almost all major PC and CE companies, starting in 1985 when I had the privilege of consulting on the first laptop of IBM.

On this first trip home, I wanted to travel light, so I only took with me the iPad Pro with Apple’s new M1 processor on board. IPads have been a part of my travels since they were introduced in 2010. Although I have used iPads as a laptop substitute on short trips, I normally always carry an ultralight Mac or Windows laptop plus. powerful to further handle my advanced computing needs on the go.

On this trip, the iPad Pro with the M1 chip more than met all of my computing needs. This makes me more convinced that at some point the MacBook and the iPad are on their way to merging into some sort of super portable computing platform where apps from both operating systems run seamlessly on one. or the other device.

If you are using the iPhone or the iPad, you know that Apple has fundamentally introduced touchscreen interfaces to the masses.

There were many stylus-driven touchscreen computing devices, starting with the GridPad in 1989 and becoming more popular with the Palm Pilot in the early 1990s. But it took Apple with the touchscreen user interface on the iPhone. and the iPad to make touchscreen interfaces the most popular way to interact with a mobile device.

Apple’s Touch UI should be seen as a game changer for the way people interact with mobile computers, but Apple has made a conscious decision not to provide a touch UI on the Mac. After using the iPad Pro for a week on the road, when I got home and started writing on my Macbook Air, I often found myself reaching for the screen to touch it to open an app. or even try to copy and paste something I wanted to put in an email. I have the iPad Pro with the Magic keyboard that has a trackpad on it, but I hardly ever use it and instead use the touchscreen to interact with the iPad Pro.

Apple added touchscreen capabilities to the Mac through the TouchBar in 2016, which incorporated a touchscreen user interface on the keyboard but not on the screen. When introducing the Touch Bar, I had a discussion with a few senior Apple executives who at the time argued that people didn’t want to lift their hands off the keyboard to use the screen to interact. with a program. . They were adamant that the TouchBar would provide this functionality to people without having to touch the screen. While some have used the Touch Bar, it never took off with MacBook users, and Apple retired it from future designs in 2020.

Since the introduction of Apple’s touchscreen user interface, touchscreen laptops have become popular in the Windows laptop world. Starting with the two-in-one and now on all types of laptop designs, optional touchscreen user interfaces are standard fare on around 35% of all laptops produced.

Still, Apple remains reluctant to add a touchscreen to any MacBook. They continue to stick to their philosophy that people don’t want to let go of the keyboard, and the trackpad or mouse is the most efficient way to interact with all of their clamshell MacBooks. Analyzing the most recent rumors about future MacBooks, I can’t find any reference to adding a touchscreen to a new Apple laptop.

I know Apple has had customers claiming touchscreen MacBooks that indoctrinated themselves into the touch user interface through iPads. However, oddly enough, Apple isn’t showing any signs that a touchscreen MacBook is on the horizon and sticks to their view that their users just don’t need it.

How to share a screen on FaceTime using Windows on a PC

iOS 15 brings a number of notable changes, including better handling of notifications, focus modes, and redesigned apps like Weather and Maps. Perhaps the biggest change with iOS 15 is the new FaceTime experience which now offers screen sharing, Windows and Android access, and more.

Apple brought Spatial Audio and Portrait mode to FaceTime calls. New SharePlay features allow users to watch TV shows and movies or listen to music together. Using SharePlay, you can also share a live view of your screen while on the call. These are great features for users on iOS and macOS, and with FaceTime links bringing web support, Apple customers won’t be the only ones making FaceTime calls anymore.

While we may not have a long-requested FaceTime app for Android, iOS users can link to a FaceTime call accessible through a standard web browser on a mobile or desktop device. The web app doesn’t have all of the features that FaceTime with iOS 15, but you can share your screen with additional software.

Screen Share on FaceTime from Windows with OBS

OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) is an open source program that was created for video recording and live streaming from a variety of devices to almost all platforms. The “VirtualCam” plugin was created to allow the software to appear through other applications like a normal webcam, and recently this plugin was integrated into the main version of OBS. With OBS, we can share our screen on a Windows device during a FacTime call.

To start, all you need to do is download OBS and install it on your computer.

When you open OBS for the first time, an automatic configuration wizard is displayed. OBS is powerful software and it looks complicated, but running it as a virtual camera is straightforward. Just select “I will only use the virtual camera”. OBS will then automatically recommend the quality settings for your computer, so just click Next.

To start capturing your screen, select the “+” under the sources and select Screen Capture. The “Create a source” window will then appear. Just click OK to create a new display capture.

This will open a new window. If you have more than one monitor connected to your computer, you will need to select the monitor you want to capture under the “Display” selection, then click OK.

Depending on your screen resolution, you may need to adjust the size of the screenshot to fit the window. Just click and drag on the red corners to fit it, then click “Start Virtual Camera” towards the lower right corner.

Selecting the screenshot in FaceTime

After joining a FaceTime call from a link on a Windows computer, click the three dots in the lower left corner to open Settings. Under the camera, select “OBS Virtual Camera” to start sharing your screen.

FaceTime automatically takes the non-square video and crops it to a square before sending it to FaceTime. You can further reduce the screenshot in OBS to show the whole screen, but then you add black bars to the top and bottom of your video, so this is a personal preference based on what you want. share.

If you are testing this method and find it useful, let us know in the comments! iOS 15 is currently in beta and will be publicly available this fall.

Title of the Phoenix Suns or the Milwaukee Bucks?

The Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks play Game 1 of the NBA Finals at the Phoenix Suns Arena in Phoenix on Tuesday night.

Before the game begins, take a look at these predictions for the series between the Suns, the No.2 seed in the Western Conference, and the Bucks, the No.3 seed in the Eastern Conference.

Who will win the series?

The writers of The Arizona Republic and USA TODAY Sports make their predictions.

After:Phoenix Suns vs Milwaukee Bucks NBA Finals Game 1 live updates

After:Milwaukee Bucks vs. Phoenix Suns NBA Finals Game 1 odds, picks, predictions: who wins?

After:NBA Finals uniforms: What the Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks will wear in every game of the series

Greg Moore, Columnist, The Arizona Republic: Suns in 4

Milwaukee is a problem. the Bucks are a physical team that can play three 7-footers at a time assuming Giannis Antetokounmpo is healthy. They’re even big on the fenders and in the backcourt with guys like PJ Tucker and Jrue Holiday. Of course, the Suns know what to do with a big team. Just ask the Lakers. Deandre Ayton should be faster than Brook Lopez. Jae Crowder and Cam Johnson should be able to get Bobby Portis out of the hoop with their 3-point reach. And if Antetokounmpo, double MVP, can play, he will have his injured knee tested in pick-and-roll situations. The key for the Suns will be to bounce back defensively and prevent the Bucks from getting too many second chance points. The most fun game to watch will be Devin Booker vs. PJ Tucker. Their training fights when Tucker was in Phoenix were legendary. He’s a big part of the reason Booker is such a scoring machine. Suns out of four. (What did you think I was going to say ?!)

After:Milwaukee Bucks vs. Phoenix Suns: 2021 NBA Finals schedule

Kent Somers, Columnist, The Arizona Republic: Suns in 6

Will Giannis Antetokounmpo play? It won’t make any difference who wins this series, just how long the festivities might last. The Suns are the better team. They have more depth and more balance. And that’s true even though the Bucks have Antetokounmpo. If Antetokounmpo misses the entire series, it won’t last more than six games. It will probably be over less than that. If he does, it’s okay six or seven, but the Suns still win their first NBA title. But it comes with an asterisk: * if everyone stays healthy. And we have seen it throughout the playoffs, it is far from certain. A sting, muscle pull, broken nose, positive COVID test, or something else you can’t predict could change everything. Otherwise, let’s say Suns in six.

After:NBA Championship odds: Phoenix Suns preferred to win 2021 NBA title over Milwaukee Bucks

Duane Rankin, Suns Writer, The Arizona Republic: Suns in 7

The Suns are more complete when it comes to overall talent, depth, training and chemistry, but the Bucks are more seasoned overall in terms of playoff experience. However, Phoenix has gone through the reigning NBA champions (Los Angeles Lakers), NBA MVP (Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic) and the Clippers, who won the regular season series against them. Additionally, the Suns, who had the best road record in the NBA, closed all three rounds away. Combine that with Paul only being four wins away to ultimately claim an NBA title in his 16th season, Antetokounmpo likely missed the start of the series and not being 100% if he returns, and Phoenix having the home court advantage with such a hungry fan base for a championship, the Suns won’t turn down.

Jeff Zillgitt, USA TODAY Sports: Suns in 6

Both teams were impressive on the way to the final, given who they had to beat and how they had to do it. Milwaukee’s success hinges on the availability of All-NBA forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, and even then, it will be tough for the Bucks to beat the Suns who have been the best team in the playoffs. There are plenty of fun games to watch (Chris Paul v Jrue Holiday, Devin Booker v Khris Middleton and guarding Antetokounmpo), as well as coaching the decisions that will impact this series. I am rooted for compelling and entertaining.

After:NBA Finals MVP odds change after Milwaukee Bucks clinch berth against Phoenix Suns

Mark Medina, USA TODAY Sports: Suns in 7

While it seems uncertain when or if Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo will return from injury, the Suns have a chance to steal at least a game or two during his absence. But the Suns’ fortune isn’t just about being the last team in the line – they earned that trip to the Finals thanks to a quality head coach (Monty Williams), quality point guard (Chris Paul) and youth. rising (Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton).

After:Phoenix Suns ticket prices drop for NBA Finals Game 1 vs Milwaukee Bucks

Matt Eppers, USA TODAY Sports: Suns in 6

Chris Paul became the sentimental favorite, but he was also arguably the best player in the playoffs. He and Devin Booker complement each other so well that the two engines that power the Suns, and everyone seems to be completely in sync around them. Giannis Antetokounmpo will be a problem for the Phoenix greats if he’s healthy – or nearly so – but his knee injury is a huge question mark for the Bucks. They played well without him to close out the Eastern Final, but I trust the Suns’ scoring depth to be more reliable beyond the stars.

After:Rally The Valley: Phoenix Suns fever sweeps through Arizona sports fans, teams and athletes

Jim Owczarski, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: Suns in 7

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s status remains uncertain at the start of the NBA Finals, and it also muddies the Bucks’ championship chances. The Bucks will play good defense and rely on Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday, but with a rested, healthier, and similarly defensive-minded Suns team on hold with a home field advantage that might not be. sufficient.

7 amazing brands I discovered while playing phone games

I never thought I would be the type of person to spend real money on an app, but here we are. Over the past few years, I’ve become obsessed with games like Design Home and Covet Fashion: Model Makeover, which rely on points to move forward. The fastest way to get more points (which also fuels my need for instant gratification) is to buy sponsored brands or watch ads for extra money.

Get expert buying advice right on your phone. Sign up for nerd SMS alerts from looking for deals on Reviewed.

In my hunt for points, I discovered these seven incredible products including in-game ads in fact convinced me to buy them, as well as why you should consider them whether you are a phone gamer or not.

1. Knix

It's time to ditch your old seedy athletic and athletic wear in favor of this slick, seamless brand.

Buying sports bras online is always a gamble, but Knix does it seamless (literally her bras and underwear are seamless, reducing irritation and bulk under your clothes). The Catalyst Front Zip Sports Bra is one of the strongest supports I’ve ever tried, and its removable pads won’t slip in the wash. The brand is also equipped with so many high-quality fitness, sportswear and sleepwear options that it rivals brands like Spanx.

What sets Knix apart is the brand’s dedication to providing waterproof and rule-compliant underwear and swimwear. I will continue to order from them long after I stop playing these games.

2. Cupshe

Cupshe is a gold mine for everything fun in the sun, from swimwear to sandals.

I was delighted to learn about the Cupshe beach wear brand through these games, as I’m often on the hunt for inexpensive pieces that I’m not afraid to soak in sunscreen and water of swimming pool. While I’m disappointed to learn that the brand doesn’t offer so many accessories anymore – I live for the shiny feathered boho earrings dancing in the wind that I bought last year – reviews say that the quality of her swimsuits is excellent for the price. You’ve got it all in the sun, including plus size one-pieces, tankinis, sarongs, pool floats, and cup holders, all of which are perfect for your next outdoor party.

3. Function of beauty

Function of Beauty is as fun to use in the shower as it is to order online.

We’re big fans of Function of Beauty, a personalized hair care brand that smells and looks amazing. Taking their two-minute quiz to determine your best-suited products will likely be the highlight of your day, and based on the quiz results, the brand claims to be able to create up to 87 221 245 070 160 unique combinations. , so you can be sure of your products. are specifically tailored to your hair needs.

I have been using my pink rose shampoo and conditioner and green pear serum and mask conservatively for the past two years, and I can’t imagine going back to my previous hair care routine which was potentially full of chemicals. aggressive agents like parabens and phthalates. Plus, you can personalize your bottle with your name and stickers, making it a super soft shower accessory.

4. Dollar Shave Club

Dollar Shave Club is a one-stop-shop for all of your morning and night grooming needs.

Unlike its name, Dollar Shave Club doesn’t cost a dollar, but it is still an affordable way to groom yourself. Since purchasing the starter kit from an ad, I’ve found that its razors are the sharpest I’ve used, requiring fewer knocks against the skin, and they don’t tarnish or rust as well. faster than other store-bought brands. I’m also very attached to the ergonomic razor handle, as I tend to get cramps when using new muscles when shaving in compromising positions. You can also take a quiz to help organize your perfect grooming box with prep scrubs, shaving butter, and deodorant.

5. Cosmetics for babies

A better beauty routine is at a box.

I’ve been a fan of the Ipsy beauty box for a long time, but wanted to try something new that seemed to be better value for money with plus size products. Babe Cosmetics offers a BabeBox monthly subscription that includes four to five large vegan and cruelty-free products from big brands to independent brands. I was more than impressed with her matte lipstick, water repellent mascara, and deeply pigmented eyeshadow palette that sort of lasted me over three years despite frequent use. The jade roller and hair towel were welcome inclusions in the box as well, and they felt high quality.

Best of all, your first box is free, minus the shipping cost. Not big on subscriptions? You can also purchase the products on their own from Babe Cosmetics, including highlighter drops, makeup brushes, eyebrow stencil sets, and more.

6. FabFitFun

FabFitFun sets are the perfect gift for yourself or a loved one.

Every morning feels like Christmas morning when you receive a FabFitFun box in the mail filled with makeup, fitness, home decor and more. The Quarterly Subscription Service lets you choose from eight full-size items with a retail value of up to $ 350. The subscription includes discounts with some of their partner brands, such as Michael Kors, Quay, and Baublebar, which are dotted throughout the year. Our tester received a FabFitFun box and enjoyed how he came up with a magazine that was both entertaining on the pop culture and the trending front and helpful to walk you through every goodie in your box.

7. Bright

This luxury skin care brand will make you want to stick to a morning and night routine.

Lumin claims their products are aimed at men’s “thicker, harder skin”, but as an avid razor for men, that hasn’t stopped me. I invested in the classic maintenance set with an exfoliating scrub, charcoal cleanser and moisturizing balm. The trio effectively deep cleansed my pores and saw a reduction in hyperpigmentation and puffiness, and enjoyed the light and androgynous scent. Lumin uses natural ingredients that my skin tends to agree with, like tea tree, shea butter, and green tea, and its products have a super luxurious feel.

Lumin offers several other sets that all meet different skin care needs, from youthful repair to anti-fatigue. You can also purchase these top rated items individually, including the Intensive Repair Facial Mask and the Advanced Scalp Repair Treatment.

Hackers behind holiday crime wave ask for $ 70 million

The hacker gang behind a wave of international crimes that unfolded over the weekend of July 4 said they had locked more than a million individual devices and demanded $ 70 million in bitcoins for them. release them all at once.

The gang, the Russia-connected REvil, is best known for previously hacking JBS, one of the world’s largest meat suppliers, briefly halting operations across much of North America. But the potential reach of this attack is unprecedented, some cybersecurity experts have said.

REvil started its madness on Friday by compromising Kaseya, a software company that helps businesses manage basic software updates. Since many of Kaseya’s customers are companies that run internet services for other businesses, the number of victims has increased rapidly. Instead of locking down an individual organization, as ransomware gangs typically do, REvil locked down each victimized computer as a stand-alone target and initially charged $ 45,000 to unlock each.

President Joe Biden told reporters Sunday that he “directed all the resources” of the government towards the investigation of the problem.

A Coop supermarket closed in Stockholm on Saturday in a cyberattack on organizations around the world. Ali Lorestani / AFP – Getty Images

The Swedish grocery chain Coop is the biggest known victim; it closed most of its approximately 800 stores all day Saturday. Its records were checked online by Visma Esscom, a Kaseya customer, and locked and rendered unusable.

The exact number of infected systems is unknown, although the number is likely to be large. Cyber security firm Huntress, which contributes to Kaseya’s response, said it was aware of more than 1,000 companies that had been affected.

REvil’s claim that it has compromised over a million devices is impossible to prove, as few victims speak out in public and no government or business has a database of all people. affected. But that figure is plausible, said Mikko Hypponen, a researcher at cybersecurity firm F-Secure, given that this strain of ransomware infects each device individually.

“Think of a retail chain, like the grocery store retail,” Hypponen said. “Every checkout system is an endpoint. Every laptop. Everyone in sales has one system, multiple servers. Two hundred stores, 300 stores, they would have thousands of endpoints on their own. What if one Thousands of Coop-type businesses were infected, yes, you would have a million endpoints. “

Regardless of the actual number of victims, it’s extremely difficult to imagine victims banding together to pay together $ 70 million, said Allan Liska, analyst at cybersecurity firm Recorded Future.

“Despite the boast in their rating, I actually think it’s actually a sign that they’re overwhelmed,” Liska said.

One million victims paid $ 45,000 each would bring in $ 45 billion, he noted.

“They are getting down to $ 70 million,” he said.

EA will not add in-game ads to console games

Rebuttal of reports made by Axes Last week, EA made a statement to PC Gamer denying these reports, saying they will not be adding any ads to the game.

Axios first announced that Simulmedia, which specializes in TV advertising technology, has entered into an agreement with EA and Tencent’s Hi-Rez studios to implement in-game ads through their new platform called playerWON.

After PC player Picked up the story, EA was quick to reach out and happily released a statement to make it clear that they won’t be adding in-game ads to their games.

“Following incorrect reports suggesting that we are looking to introduce ‘TV-style’ ads into our games, we wanted to clarify that in-game advertising for console games is not something we are currently reviewing, or that we have signed agreements to implement, ”said an EA spokesperson.

The spokesperson went on to say that “creating the best possible gaming experience remains our priority,” but while that may be true for advertising, EA hardly has the best record in appeasing consumers with their business practices.

Video game ads aren’t entirely new, we’ve seen sponsored stuff in games, all-branded games like Pepsiman, and even horrible full-screen ads in EA’s UFC 4.

Most recently, we’ve seen Facebook-owned Oculus implement and then quickly remove ads from the Oculus Quest 2 Blaston paid game. Although this test failed, they still plan to test the ads in the free Resolution games title “Bait!” in the future.

Mobile game users in Europe to surpass 200 million in 2021

The mobile games segment is by far the largest segment of the video game industry, but still offers one of the brightest growth opportunities for the industry in regions like Europe. According to data presented by Safe Betting Sites, the number of mobile gaming users in Europe will reach 200 million in 2021 – revenues will reach $ 12.5 billion.

Mobile game users in Europe will reach over 230 million by 2025

Mobile games are already the most lucrative source of revenue for the video game industry, but its future looks brighter than ever. Advances in technologies such as 5G adaptation and cloud gaming have made mobile gaming more accessible and better performing than ever.

Mobile gaming already had a strong presence in the world’s largest video game markets like China and the United States, but plenty of growth opportunities still exist in regions like Europe, where mobile games are growing in popularity. In 2021, mobile game users in Europe are expected to cross the 200 million user mark for the first time. By 2025, mobile game users in Europe are expected to reach 233.4 million users.

The penetration rate of mobile games in Europe is also on the rise, passing for the first time the 20% mark in 2020 when it reached 22.7%. The penetration rate is expected to increase to 23.7% in 2021 and reach 27.5% by 2025. By comparison, North America has a penetration rate of just under 50%, proving that Europe still has a lot of room to develop the use of mobile games.

Mobile gaming revenue in Europe builds on strong momentum from 2020 to $ 12.5 billion in 2021

The entire gaming industry has seen an increase in engagement in 2020 as a direct result of the lockdowns imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, mobile gaming revenue grew 25.6%, reaching $ 11 billion in 2020. This figure is expected to increase a further 13.4% in 2021 to reach $ 12.5 billion. From 2021 to 2025, mobile gaming revenue in Europe is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 9.6% to reach $ 18 billion by 2025.

Rex Pascual, Editor-in-Chief of Safe Betting Sites, commented:

“Mobile gaming has been the most lucrative segment for gaming for some time now, but regions like Europe can still be seen as a growth opportunity in the near future. With penetration rates hovering around the 50% mark for some of the wealthiest gaming markets, and Europe still nearing half that bar, the potential for further growth in the region is clear.

Which game is best for 2GB RAM Android devices in July 2021?

BGMI and PUBG Mobile Lite are two versions of the popular PUBG Mobile battle royale game. The latter is the light version, while the first is the Indianized version.

This article compares these two titles by analyzing their playstyle, graphics support, and system requirements to see which one would perform best on 2GB RAM (low-end) Android devices in July 2021.

Comparison of BGMI and PUBG Mobile Lite

Mobile India battlefields

Minimum System Requirements

  • Operating system: Android 5.1.1 or above
  • RAM – 2 GB (3 GB recommended)
  • Processor: Snapdragon 600 equivalent or better
  • Download size: 721 MB (varies by device)

PUBG Mobile Lite

Minimum System Requirements

  • Download size – 575 MB
  • Operating system – Android 4.1
  • RAM – 1 GB (Recommended – 2 GB)
  • Processor – Qualcomm processor

Game Mechanism

BGMI and PUBG Mobile Lite add richness to the real battle royale experience. In these two games, players compete on an island for the Chicken Dinner. However, the number of participants in a match varies.

BGMI has 100 players descending the map, while PUBG Mobile Lite sees 60 players. As a result, the average duration of matches varies. In BGMI, a match lasts 30-35 minutes, but players can complete a game in 15 minutes in the latter.

Battlegrounds Mobile India and PUBG Mobile Lite share the same graphic design. The former, however, is resource intensive, while the latter was designed for low-end devices and places a lower load on the device.

BGMI can deliver frame rates up to 45-50 FPS on mid-range handsets offering highly detailed map textures. In comparison, PUBG Mobile Lite can deliver 60 FPS frame rates with less detailed HD visuals.

Verdict: which game is the best?

Although BGMI and PUBG Mobile Lite are both compatible with 2GB RAM Android devices, the performance quality of the former will be poor. As BGMI is rich in graphics and requires more device resources, gamers will experience lag, stuttering, and frame drop issues after 20-30 minutes of gameplay.

PUBG Mobile Lite will perform much better on 2GB RAM smartphones as it requires minimal device resources to operate. However, gamers should not expect frame rates above 40 FPS on such devices.
