An Octopath Traveler mobile game called Octopath Traveler Champions of the Continent is now in closed beta testing for iOS and Android.
Octopath Traveler is one of the flagship titles of the Nintendo Switch. A lot of people have become big fans of the game, and now it turns out that Square Enix isn’t done for the franchise just yet. While a full-fledged sequel isn’t yet in the works, Square Enix is instead throwing its weight behind a new Octopath Traveler mobile game. Titled “Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent,” the new mobile game follows the same gameplay as the Switch game except for free items and in-app purchases.
Champions of the Continent was first released for Japanese mobile users in 2020, and its success prompted Square Enix to bring it to the West as well. Of course, there will be fans who will be dismissive of the idea of having microtransactions implemented on a JRPG. If this concerns you, the good news is that the game is currently in its closed beta testing phase. Part of the reason the game has to go through this stage is because different markets respond to monetization to varying degrees. So, join the TCC and give honest feedback to the devs to let them know that microtransactions won’t fly out west, especially when it comes to JRPGs.
Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent serves as a prequel to the Nintendo Switch title and will be available on iOS and android devices.
