Logitech G, the gaming arm of Swiss peripherals giant Logitech, has announced its partnership with Tencent Games to work on a dedicated cloud-based wearable device.

As reported by The Verge, the system is currently in full development, and nothing has been announced yet regarding a release date, price, or what the system will actually look like. What we do know, however, is that it will be a portable alternative to smart phone peripherals and will support services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming and GeForce Now from Nvidia, Logitech and Tencent working with Microsoft and Nvidia on hardware.

Ujesh Desai, General Manager of Logitech G, said the following regarding the partnership with Tencent Games:

“As one of the world’s leading game development, publishing and operating platforms, Tencent Games has been at the forefront of innovation and that is why we have partnered with them. As a person who grew up playing video games, the idea of being able to stream and play AAA games almost anywhere is super exciting, and we can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve been working on.

You’ll be able to sign up for updates to the new console through Logitech’s website. In the meantime, the company has confirmed that the system will launch later this year, so we can likely expect to hear more details in the weeks and months to come.

Regardless of how it turns out, it’s certainly an interesting development in the world of cloud gaming. The technology is still in its infancy and the few cloud versions of the Nintendo Switch have proven problem the best. No one can guess how far this new portable system will advance technology, but it looks like it’s definitely here to stay.
