Easier to repair you say?

Return the option for removable battery. Number 1 reason most people buy a new phone (their battery often drains and people prefer to avoid the fuss of repair and buy a new one).

Literally, since they sealed them, the companies gave them one more reason to stagnate (because now a lot of people would upgrade regardless of new features or not). No wonder we’re getting the 3rd (or 4th) Samsung in a row that’s basically the same as before. Companies have stopped trying since giving consumers reason to upgrade often *whatever*…

YUKI93, Sep 02, 2022Because it is only available in the EU. As simple as that. There has been a continued demand for… moreI also live outside the EU, but I managed to find Amazon retailers who can ship it outside the EU. I’m still looking for a way to ship all the spares, but really enjoyed the whole experience. Snapdragon 750G is still more than enough for me and it supports HDMI ALT wired video output, something I haven’t seen on a high-end smartphone since the LG Velvet 5G.

Sep 03, 2022These companies make hundreds of billions a year, they can easily absorb the costs. When all o… morewell, this law is going to be a mere excuse to reduce quality. whatever profit a company makes will not be enough. capitalism needs economic growth, otherwise it doesn’t work. tesla is a good example. all the pundits and the media are praising electric cars as environmentally friendly. so people think they have to buy them. as a result, tesla can put high prices on its cars, a tesla model 3 costs 50.000€ base price. this is the cheapest tesla model you can get. so you have to spend so much money to get the most common thing in your life, a car. and of course, as mentioned above, because electric cars are rented, tesla doesn’t need to give premium either. when you walk into a tesla you only see a tablet and a steering wheel, there is almost nothing else in the car. and the overall build quality of the car is very poor. it shows that you just have to make people believe something is awesome and they will buy it, you can buy anything cheap and they will buy it. and then tesla can also charge a lot for repairs. there is a case with a finnish man who bought a used tesla and a few hundred kilometers later it stopped working. he wanted to fix it. he was told it would cost him around €20,000 to change the battery. after that he invested that money to blow up the car.

that’s why I fear that the smartphone industry will become the same. prices will go up and quality will go down because companies can make excuses with the new regulations.

“you know dear customer, we have to change the construction of the phones to improve the repairability. for this very expensive move (😏), we have to raise the prices. and because the very evil eu commission wants us to offer things extras like chargers, repair kits etc. you will have to pay for these things additionally… what? you don’t agree with higher prices? well if your phone becomes more durable we will have to raise prices one more time because we’ll sell fewer phones . no matter what argument you come up with, we’ll always have an excuse, you know?”

Anonymous, Sep 02, 2022The supplied chargers and earphones were mostly excellent. Who said it was craps? they were all pretty bad especially for what you can get today for no less than 3$ (eg qkz ak6)

maybe exception; AKG x Samsung, but they were still pretty huh

They should force manufacturers to achieve at least the current state of the art of 1600 cycles at 80% for batteries, otherwise by the time their current proposal is implemented it will be obsolete. And a minimum of 5-year system updates should also be mandatory.

Anonymous, Sep 02, 2022if they do, then smartphones will be crap. smartphone companies will release shitty phones… moreThese companies make hundreds of billions a year, they can easily absorb the costs. When all other manufacturers like cars, appliances… provide parts and services, why should companies like Apple and Samsung be exempt?

Bebochekov, Sep 02, 2022Apple had issues with the camera, earpiece/speaker, and charging port.Well, I’m not an Apple user and have no knowledge of the reliability of brands/models.
I’m speaking purely from real life experience. I can count on the one hand how many people I know or have met over the years have had problems other than the ones I mentioned earlier.

I don’t mind having more spares, I guess it’s “the more the merrier”. I just pointed out a happy medium.

impinas, Sep 02, 2022You mean you don’t have a charger? How do you cope? Do you even have a phone? Besides, why… moreRead what I wrote just above and you will understand. I don’t want any more e-waste packed with my phone.
One more reason – I can choose better accessories than the supplied ones. Much better. So why would more e-waste be produced?

blue, Sep 02, 2022I wonder why no one buys the amazing Fairphone…Because it is only available in the EU. As simple as that. There has been continued demand for the phone to be sold outside of the EU, but Fairphone still doesn’t have a plan for that.

mixoptic, Sep 02, 2022The EU is increasingly looking at Fasciston from the tech side. why don’t they design something themselves… moreDon’t you want devices that are more durable and easier to repair?

[deleted post]You mean you don’t have a charger? How do you cope? Do you even have a phone? Plus, why are manufacturers continually pushing for higher charging speeds if people don’t care?

Anonymous, Sep 02, 2022The supplied chargers and earphones were mostly excellent. Who said it was craps? Everyone, who tested the phones. With the exception of a few rare models, all manufacturers have provided the cheapest and worst headphones possible. Everything was better than shit together. The same was and still is with chargers. Cheap, slow, useless.

I

I have another idea! Why don’t they offer unique packaging? You know, a package that apart from the device includes a charger, cable, case, etc. Because, you buy a phone, then you buy various items, each with its own factory packaging, courier packaging, extra shipping, and all kinds of things that harm the environment. Then, as charging technology advances, maybe an old charger needs to be replaced with a new one, or maybe the cable doesn’t support faster charging, let’s buy a new one. It would be great to buy a phone, open the package and find everything you need! Oh wait…

The EU is increasingly looking at Fasciston from the tech side. why don’t they design something themselves instead of forcing private companies

blue, Sep 02, 2022If you don’t use supplied headphones (because you already have better ones or you… moreLogic can’t get any sh#tier than that.
How do you know people already have a better charger and headphones?
Even Apple users don’t get a better charger with previous models as their charging speed increases more and more.

Anonymous, Sep 02, 2022If you can buy an iPhone, you can also afford to buy the charger. Costs like 30 bucksAnd this $1000 phone doesn’t come with a charger. Is that your logic?
