CUPERTINO (CBS SF / CNN) – One of the first computers made by Apple is up for auction and it could sell for as much as $ 600,000.
The Apple-1 that goes under the hammer on Tuesday is one of the few surviving examples of the world’s first Apple computer, according to John Moran Auctioneers.

The bundle includes an Apple-1 “NTI” motherboard and an Apple cassette adapter in a koa wood case, as well as a Datanetics Rev D keyboard, a 1986 Panasonic video monitor, an Apple-1 connection cable and a power, states list.
It also comes with a basic Apple-1 manual, Apple-1 operations guide, original MOS 6502 programming manual, and two Apple-1 software tapes.
The computer was designed by Steve Wozniak and assembled and tested by Steve Jobs.
The Apple-1 on sale has only had two owners. This particular example was purchased by an electronics professor, who then sold it to a student in 1977, the auctioneer said.
“This Apple-1 recently underwent an extensive authentication, recovery and evaluation process by one of the foremost experts in the field, who inspected all components and generated a full status report for the Apple-1 “, the list reads.
Only six copies of the koa wood Apple-1 case remain, according to the auction house. Timber has become rarer and more expensive as the number of koa trees has been reduced due to livestock grazing and logging.

Only 200 Apple-1s were made in total, of which 175 were sold.
Fifty of the 175 computers were sold to Paul Terrell, owner of a store called ByteShop in Mountain View, adds the list.
According to the auctioneers, Terrell would have been disappointed when they were delivered as he expected a stand-alone computer unit ready to plug in, rather than a kit.
However, Jobs soothed him by saying that each box contained all the elements to make a fully functional computer, and ByteShop could make money selling the product.
In 2013, a rare working model of the Apple-1 sold for over $ 671,000 at an auction in Germany.
The computer was sold with a letter from Apple co-founder Jobs to its original owner.
Jobs and Wozniak created the Apple computer in Jobs’ family garage in Los Altos, building the device by hand and funding the business through the sale of Wozniak’s sophisticated calculator and Jobs’s VW camper van. .
Now based in Cupertino, Apple is one of the most valuable companies in the world, with a value of around $ 2.5 trillion.
